OFFICIAL DIAMOND JUBILEE CHESS SET

Studio Anne Carlton is proud to announce the launch of the official commemorative chess set to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

The set has been produced exclusively under licence following agreement between Studio Anne Carlton, St George’s Chapel at Windsor and the Lord Chamberlain’s Office.

It features expertly sculpted pieces, marked with The Queen’s Cypher, of The Queen and The Duke Of Edinburgh in their Garter Ceremony robes. The bishop is the Dean of Windsor, the Rt Rev David Conner, and the rook is the Round Tower at Windsor Castle.

The knight is based on the Military Knights of Windsor and the pawns are represented as choristers.

The first sample pieces of the set were unveiled to the trade at the Birmingham Spring Fair in February. The set will be available for delivery from 1st October this year.

In addition to the full set, Studio Anne Carlton is offering the decorated individual pieces of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh for sale as collectables.

Studio Anne Carlton has a tradition dating back to the 1960s of making high quality traditional games and commemorative chess sets. The company’s products include a set based on the Tower of London under licence from Historic Royal Palaces as well as a set to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, a project agreed with the National Maritime Museum.

The most popular set is the Isle of Lewis set, a replica of the pieces fashioned from walrus ivory and whales’ teeth as long ago as the 12th century. The original pieces were found on the Isle of Lewis and now sit in the British Museum and the National Museum, of Scotland.
